hi. it looks beautiful there. I bet you guys are having so much fun. Maddy went into the hospital. She had a a shunt revision on 10/11/07due to a blockage, again.(previous revisions on 8/31/07,11/04,6/02) and didn't improve. They did 3 ct scans, mri, shunt a gram, spinal tap and a central line(poor vein access). After the MRI they found out she has Chiari Malformation. They placed an ICP monitor and found out her pressures were too high. On 10/29/07 she she had a piece of her skull removed to allow her brain to expand,a c1 decompression and another shunt revision(it was blocked again). She in total spent 24 days in the hospital. I am glad we are out. Take care. Talk to you soon.

I took MAddy to see Dr. Magram Dr. Woodwards partner on wed,due to headaches, lack of appetite etc.He was concerned and order an MRI of the head and spine. The MRI of her head and spine looked good. Dr. W called friday night and said she probably has a stomuch virus and at the time I felt like she was blowing me off. She had no fever or any other symptoms. She suggested i take her to the ER or her pediatrician to get some IV fluids as she has been drinking and eating very little.I took Maddy to the Er today, the er doc was rude. They drew some blood and he said she isn't dehydrated and could go home. Right after that the neurosurgeon Dr. W called and said she would be right down. She had a totally different attitude today she said"clearly something is not right with Madelyn. She said "I'm trying to listen to you and I'm not trying to blow you off". She said that she doesn't always agree with Dr. M and he doesn't agree with her too. She prescribed inderal to see if that helps with the headaches, she said it helps some of her patients with slit ventricle syndrome. She said she will have her come in tues or wed to have either a mediport or broviac line put in(maddy has VERY poor vein access)to help keep her hydrated. She has a couple ideas on what could be wrong with Maddy. She said they may need to change the valve pressure, do a duraectomy(part of the decompression surgery), it could be blocked again, or she may put in an addition catheter so see if that helps. She will call me tomorrow to see how Maddy is doing. I will keep you all posted.

Welcome to Dubai!!

Well, the Hughes's are now in Dubai, and loving every second of it. What a beautiful place, with an endless number of things to do. The pictures don't do it any justice, but at least you can get a taste of what we're experiencing. We miss everyone, and offer an open invitation for anyone who'd like to visit : )
